Lee County approves $1.3 million reimbursement agreement with Lee Health to expand community paramedic program

Lee County commissioners on May 6 approved a professional services agreement with Lee Health to expand the county's community paramedic/community health program, authorizing reimbursement to the county not to exceed $1,300,000.
Benjamin Abis of Public Safety described the agreement as a reimbursement contract under which Lee Health will pay the county for community‑based services that help discharged patients avoid unnecessary emergency department visits and support follow‑up care at home. "This agreement will allow us to expand the community health program in a partnership with Lee Health to address specific issues ... and that reimbursement will not exceed the $1,300,000 that you see listed on the PSA," Abis said.
Abis told the board the county launched an initial phase of the community health program using Florida Department of Children and Families funds and that the pilot had produced promising results. Commissioners noted the program could reduce strain on emergency departments during peak season. Abis said the county has engaged with other health systems and primary care practices to expand partnerships as metrics demonstrate return on investment.
The board approved the agreement on consent; no public comment was recorded on the item.
