On second reading the Aventura City Commission on May 6 adopted an ordinance authorizing the placement, installation and operation of automated speed‑detection systems in two school zones: Turnberry Jewish Center and Tauber Academy.
The city manager said the ordinance amends city code to allow speed‑detection systems consistent with state law and city traffic‑safety initiatives and described the change as an effort to enhance student and pedestrian safety. “This amendment enhances pedestrian student safety by allowing the city to deploy automated enforcement tools and designated school zones consistent with state law and the city's ongoing traffic safety initiatives,” the manager said.
No public speakers opposed the ordinance during the hearing; the commission voted unanimously to adopt the measure. The enacted ordinance updates section 48‑46 of the city code to include the two school zones authorized for speed detection.
