Aventura adopts stormwater utility fee, moves collection to county tax roll to save costs

The manager said the tax collector method will be less expensive than using third‑party water providers, and will produce “substantial cost savings estimated at over a hundred thousand dollars annually,” according to the meeting record.
Commissioner discussion emphasized transparency: the fee will appear as a separate line item on tax bills and will not change the city’s millage rate, a commissioner said. The commission approved the measure unanimously.
The resolution sets a public hearing to consider the specific rates and the procedures for the stormwater utility fee; if the commission adopts rates at a future hearing, the fee will fund stormwater management services and projects in the city and permit enforcement through the county tax collection process.
