The San Juan County Commission approved a memorandum of understanding with the Utah Education and Telehealth Network (UETN) to extend broadband and Wi‑Fi service discounts to county libraries.
Library Director Nicole Perkins told commissioners the agreement will bring Fleming, Bluff and Montezuma Creek library branches into an E‑rate and UETN arrangement that could save the library system “over a hundred thousand dollars.” Perkins said negotiating with UETN yielded an additional $10,583 contribution toward both nonrecurring and monthly recurring costs, and that the MOU would cover services for 60 months through at least June 30, 2030.
Commissioners voted to approve the MOU; Perkins said the MOU will be routed to the chair for signature and that technical issues at small branches, such as a virus-protection contract that ends in July, are being addressed by tech support and contractors.
The action does not appropriate new county funds; it formalizes participation in the UETN discount program and the MOU’s terms for network services at branch locations.
