County OKs small state grant increase for STD intervention services through September

The San Juan County Commission approved an amendment to the county health department’s contract with the Utah Department of Health and Human Services to continue sexually transmitted-disease (STD) intervention services.
County staff described amendment number 9 as an increase of $1,667 to the existing agreement for STD disease intervention services, bringing the total award for the contract series to $197,643.33, and extending the contract term through Sept. 30, 2025. Staff said the county’s rate for primary and secondary syphilis, at 13.1 cases per 100,000, is among the highest in Utah; for San Juan County’s population that rate corresponds to about two cases in raw counts.
Commissioners asked whether the amendment represented a program change or a cut; staff replied it was an increase and extended the period of performance. Commissioner Harvey said the added funds and time were welcome, and the commission approved the amendment with an instruction that the signature reflect the current commission chair.
There was no motion to change programming at the meeting; the approval was to accept the amendment and adjust contract signatures as needed.
