County staff said the engineering funds are intended to finalize design and cost estimates so the project can be presented as shovel-ready to federal and state funders. The county’s goal, staff said, is to have water shares and engineering complete so larger funding requests—estimated in staff materials at about $30 million for full construction—can be submitted with detailed, ready-to-build plans.
Commissioners voted to approve the grant request and adopt a resolution asking USDA to fund the engineering work. No further budget appropriation was recorded at the meeting; the action was to authorize submission of the engineering-services application.
Planning and infrastructure staff will continue to work with the county’s engineering firm to refine cost estimates and project readiness for larger funding competitions.
