City manager reports donations, park projects, pool-opening plans and staffing updates

City manager Eric gave a broad operations update covering parks, facility donations, seasonal openings and staffing.
Eric said Columbia Falls Nursery is donating shrubs and bushes to beautify the new skate park, and that recent rain has helped landscaping. He said the community garden opened and that volunteers will assume care of a nearby beautification triangle. Parkside Credit Union donated office furniture to city departments, and Armed Fitness donated gym equipment to the fire department.
The city manager said the outdoor pool’s planned opening day is Saturday, June 15, scheduled for the Saturday after school lets out. He said the city has candidates for pool manager and staff and that two police-officer recruitments are underway after one officer resigned and another position opened.
On parking, Eric said staff is considering “no parking” signage on one side of a street at Fennel Park to prevent parking in the right of way; the council discussed moving a relocated railroad-park bleacher as requested. The Falls Park waterfall is active and flowing, he said.
Eric closed with an operational note that staff will present a budget amendment at the next meeting covering a police car purchase, the sale of a fire truck and resort-tax items.
