City manager proposes budget-action timeline; council asked to schedule workshop May 19

City manager Eric presented a plan of action and milestones for the fiscal year 2025–26 budget and asked the council to schedule a budget workshop at the next meeting to start at 6 p.m.
Eric said staff and the finance director have begun budget development and proposed using council committees to examine department priorities in more detail. The plan calls for committee meetings roughly an hour before council meetings, with one exception for a Thursday, June 5, date; staff said they would be flexible to meet committee availability that week.
Eric proposed opening public hearings on the budget in July and working through September toward budget adoption, with another workshop for department directors to present priorities. He asked the council for feedback over the next two weeks and suggested holding the budget workshop on May 19.
The city manager also told the council staff would circulate a summary of priorities from the last three to five years to help frame the budget discussions. At the next regular council meeting staff expects to present a budget amendment for FY24–25 that will include a police vehicle purchase, the sale of a fire truck and resort-tax issues.
No final budget vote was recorded at the meeting; the council agreed to consider workshop scheduling and committee plans.
