Lee County School District officials on Tuesday gave the board a data‑driven update on recruitment and retention, saying a four‑month initiative reduced advertised instructional vacancies from 211 in January to 31 this week and laying out an organizational reconfiguration to focus on retention.
"At the start of the 4 month initiative, we reported 211 instructional vacancies. After completing an audit of the original 211 vacancies, we now have 31 that remain open and advertised," said Dr. Shanna Johnston (presenting the recruitment update). She said 17 of the remaining openings are for core instructional positions (for example, self‑contained ESE classrooms and related roles).
