Treasurer Charles Enconzo reported the city made the final payment on a ladder truck purchased in 2017, saying the vehicle originally cost $1,120,427 and the city secured favorable loan terms. He also noted National Train Day events and that Union Pacific is unveiling a locomotive named in honor of Abraham Lincoln (No. 1616), which may be displayed at the Oregon Rail History Center on May 10.
Public announcements included Amtrak ridership statistics for calendar year 2024: 18,240 on-and-off riders at the Lincoln depot, per an Amtrak email shared at the meeting.
Public Works and other staff updated council members on road and sewer work: Castle Manor Drive has reopened after repairs; work at Veil Splitter Avenue at Airport Road has concluded with remaining curb work; and the 1300 block of North Kankakee is closed for a sewer repair expected to last several days. On mosquito spraying, a staff member said Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) are available on request, crews typically run low-volume fogging through alleys rather than streets, operators shut off fogging when approaching people, and the annual machine test and Memorial Day target timing were discussed.
Council members also noted VE Day's 80th anniversary and local community event reminders.
