Centre County commissioners authorized an engagement letter required by the Commonwealth’s Office of Budget ahead of an audit of the Grange Park Equine Center project, county planning staff said.
Ray, planning director, told the board the project traces to a Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP) grant executed Oct. 30, 2017, and said the Office of Budget requires a signed engagement letter before an entrance conference scheduled for May 9. County staff said the county had handled state paperwork for the RACP grant and that earlier staff, including Sue Hannigan, had invested significant effort on certification and compliance work.
Why it matters: the equine center hosts horse, llama, alpaca and goat shows and is used during the Grange Fair, county officials said, drawing thousands of tourists and contributing to local economic activity. Ray said the facility is an asset for tourism and that completing the audit will “finish out this project officially.”
The board approved the engagement letter by voice vote and staff said they would assemble records kept by earlier staff to support the audit.
