Montgomery city officials described a series of community investments in West Montgomery, including reopened and renovated community centers and a new fire station the official said is a $19,000,000 investment.
The city official said the Crump and Chisholm community centers were recently reopened and that Sheridan Heights North Montgomery Community Center would reopen after significant renovations. "These aren't just buildings. We know that they are lifelines," the official said, describing centers as places for recreation, tutoring and civic gatherings.
The official said Fire Station 10 will open Friday and called it "a $19,000,000 investment in the community, not just in public safety, but in public spaces." The official said the station would host community meetings and other events in addition to emergency response functions.
The remarks tied the fire station to other capital spending in West Montgomery, including about $10,000,000 in infrastructure work along West Fairview Avenue, $4,000,000 for a farmers market and additional millions planned for affordable housing near E. D. Nixon and Fairview and Oak Street at Fairview. The official said additional plans for Oak Street would be shared at a later date.
No council votes or contract awards were recorded during the remarks; the official said the investments demonstrate a commitment to job creation, public spaces and community revitalization in West Montgomery.
