Baltimore County Department of Aging will celebrate National Senior Health and Fitness Day on Wednesday, May 28, at Meadowood Park north of I-83 on Falls Road, the department announced during a county broadcast.
Kathleen Young, senior center regional manager for the Baltimore County Department of Aging, said the event will include multiple activity options: a trail walk or Tai Chi at 9:30 a.m., a drum circle or another trail walk at 10:30 a.m., and a chair-stretch class led by Carolyn Cook at 11:30 a.m. "This year's theme is 'move today for a better tomorrow,'" Young said.
The county said the event is free to attend. A box lunch is available with choices of grilled chicken pasta or tuna noodle salad; the program stated a recommended donation of $5 for people 60 and older and also included a separate line mentioning an $8 meal charge that the broadcast did not clearly reconcile. The county announced that lunches must be ordered in advance by May 21 and that those requesting a lunch should pay when making the reservation. Anyone needing help with registration was given a phone number, (410) 887-2002, to request the event link.
Organizers asked attendees to wear comfortable shoes and suggested bringing a lawn chair, blanket, wide-brim hat or umbrella because shade at Meadowood Park is limited. Young said participants do not need to register in advance to attend the activities but should reserve lunches by the May 21 deadline because space and meals are limited.
The Department of Aging said the event is a partnership with the Baltimore County Department of Health and the Baltimore County Department of Recreation and Parks. No fees for general participation, formal registration thresholds, or additional eligibility requirements were cited during the broadcast.
