The first project will add a marked crosswalk on Ridge/Mayfair where sidewalks currently end, near a playground and pedestrian routes to the library; staff will design ADA landing ramps and adjust the nearby stop sign and drainage features as needed. Council asked staff to keep the crossing as short as possible and to add appropriate curb ramps so wheelchairs and strollers can use the crossing safely.
The second project will add a crosswalk at Carr and Broadway where residents reported a mother with a stroller struggling to cross; staff will add ADA curb ramps and replace or install missing ramps on the far side of the intersection as part of the same in‑house effort.
Council approved both projects with the requirement that public‑works crews handle the installation and that staff coordinate signal/timing and signage as needed. Councilors said the crosswalk work is intended to be a low‑cost, high‑impact safety measure and asked staff to return any cost estimates if outside contractors are required.
