County awards nearly $90,000 in recreation, arts and parks funds to unincorporated projects

Nicole Felsha, who presented the request, said the RAP tax renewal passed in November 2024 and that 85% of the tax proceeds are allocated to counties and cities based on population and point of sale; the item before the commission concerned the 85% allocated to unincorporated county projects.
The commission approved awards recommended by staff: Silver Reef Foundation — $16,000 (for exhibit lighting upgrades, cases, trail maintenance, operational expenses and other small items); Veyo Community Rodeo Association — $65,618 (including a covered walkway, retaining wall work, equipment rental and a 15‑row aluminum bleacher; staff recommended funding one bleacher purchase this year); and Grafton Heritage Partnership Project — $8,283 (painting newly installed gutters and finish work to match historic appearance).
The awards were approved by motion and voice vote. Staff summarized specific items funded within each award and noted applicants may reapply in future cycles for remaining or phased needs.
Commissioners said RAP funds are important to local cultural and recreational organizations and help maintain community assets in unincorporated areas.
