The Town of Babylon approved multiple accessory-apartment permits and more than 30 renewals by affidavit during a town board meeting that also included one application tabled for additional information.
Individual permit approvals recorded on the public record included an accessory apartment for Ahmed Kanai at 248 Montgomery Avenue (second floor, two bedrooms) and for Gulfam Zia at 41 Avenue B (second floor, two bedrooms; applicant said his son occupies the unit). Both applicants submitted required documentation and inspections were noted; each applicant was told they would receive a permit in a couple of weeks and that renewal would be required in three years.
Board member Lamont moved to approve Ahmed Kanai's application; the motion was seconded by Carrie and approved by voice vote. Gulfam Zia's application was moved by Carolyn, seconded by Keith, and approved by voice vote. The board told applicants to remove posted signs and said permits would be mailed within weeks.
After those approvals, the board considered a sequence of renewals by affidavit. The board approved renewals for more than 30 properties (listed on the record by applicant name and address) by individual voice votes or omnibus motion; the meeting transcript records motions and seconds from members including Lamont, Stephanie, Carolyn, Pete and Keith and repeated “Aye” voice votes for each item. One renewal application, for 156 Fillmore Avenue (Pierre), was tabled pending additional information after a motion to table was seconded and approved.
The approvals followed the board’s routine verification steps: affidavit of posting on file for each application, documentation such as driver's licenses and utility bills, and a recorded inspection date for items where noted (for example, one inspection was recorded as 03/28/25). Approved applicants were told their permits would arrive in a couple of weeks and that accessory-apartment renewals occur on a three‑year cycle.
The board adjourned after accepting the meeting minutes and closing business.
