Commission proclaims May 2025 "Washington County Law Enforcement and First Responders Month"

The Washington County Commission on May 6 approved Proclamation 2542 declaring May 2025 to be Washington County Law Enforcement and First Responders Month.
The proclamation was introduced by the chair and read in part to express gratitude for “the law enforcement, fire, and emergency services teams who serve” the county and to recognize “unprecedented demands” on those agencies over the last five years. The chair said the annual proclamation was intended to “remind and give thanks to, all of our first responders that are out there making our community a better place.”
During debate, the chair and other commissioners praised local prosecutors and law enforcement and said the proclamation also signals the county’s supportive stance toward policing. One commissioner said, “At least in this county, we're going to be very pro law enforcement, and, and we don't need your bad attitude here.”
The commission approved the proclamation by voice vote.
The proclamation is ceremonial and carries no appropriation; commissioners said it is part of an annual practice meant to publicly recognize first responders and thank state and local partners for service to the community.
