Board approves SEH for fire‑rescue training center master plan; staff cites $26,007.50 fee and local matches

The City of Marshfield Board of Public Works voted to forward a recommendation to the common council to approve SEH as consultant for a comprehensive master plan for the Fire & Rescue Department training center. Fire Chief Edward Neal presented the selection and said SEH submitted the most competitive fee of $26,007.50 and has experience designing firefighter training facilities.
Neal said the selection committee evaluated five firms and found SEH’s in-house staff, firefighter-focused design team and regional ties favorable. "They do have a strong and local regional tie for us," he said, noting SEH could meet the project timeline with a planned completion target for the conceptual plan on Sept. 1. He also told the board the city has roughly $73,000 available in a shared expense account and that the project benefits from a 50/50 match with Mid‑State Technical College for certain elements.
Chief Neal said staff will pursue additional grants and federal appropriations, and is exploring fee structures and mutual aid participation for regional training access. The board approved the recommendation by voice vote and agreed to forward the item to the common council for final approval and contracting.
