The Charleston County Board of Zoning Appeals approved a special exception for 434 Riverman Drive on James Island to operate as a four-bedroom short-term rental, subject to staff conditions including a 144-day cap and STRP site-plan review.
Staff said the 0.21-acre property has a four-bedroom house built in 1945 and the applicant proposed renting all four bedrooms with six parking spaces and up to eight guests. Applicant Brandon Seitz of Insightful Properties LLC described a full renovation since purchase, on-site cameras and noise sensors, and his intent to contract with local property managers for 24/7 response. He said he has been in contact with nearby neighbors and will continue outreach.
Board member Mr. Sadel moved to approve the application, citing multiple STRs in the area, proximity to Maybank Highway and applicant mitigation measures; Mr. Truslow seconded and the motion passed unanimously. The board reminded the applicant that staff will mail a final decision by certified mail within 10 working days and to coordinate on STRP review and condition compliance.
