Recommending committee approves Fremont Street maintenance district renewal; no assessment for FY2026

The City of Las Vegas recommending committee voted May 5 to approve an ordinance renewing Special Improvement District (SID) 1516, the Fremont Street Maintenance District, for fiscal year 2026.
"This ordinance is regarding Special Improvement District 1516, Fremont Street Maintenance," said Zalala Malamu, engineering project manager with the Department of Public Works. Malamu told the committee the district consists of 32 parcels bounded by Las Vegas Boulevard to the west, Eighth Street to the east, Ogden Avenue to the north and Carson Avenue to the south in Ward 3.
Staff said the district covers annual costs for landscape maintenance, street cleaning, public utilities, promotional events and marketing. Malamu told the committee that after coordination with the Fremont East District board, "there will be no assessment for the period between 07/01/2025 and 06/30/2026 due to sufficient fund reserves to cover anticipated expenses." The SID is paid 100% by property owners and staff recommended approval.
Committee members moved to approve the ordinance (bill number 2025-4); the chair called for a vote and announced the item passed. The ordinance will be scheduled for a City Council hearing on May 21, 2025.
