Committee adopts resolution language urging state to increase circuit court funding and revenue sharing

The Marathon County Public Safety Committee voted May 6 to approve amended resolution language urging the state to prioritize increased funding for circuit court operations and to increase revenue sharing with counties for items such as court security, guardian ad litem, appointed counsel and interpreter services.
Lance Leonard, county administrator, said committee direction at a prior meeting led to edits that appear in the packet; the resolution calls for increased base funding for circuit court cost appropriations and asks legislators to ensure more revenue sharing between state and counties for court security, guardian ad litem and interpreter and appointed-attorney costs.
"There is some specific language relative to funding across the state in terms of what those funding increases have been historically," Leonard said while introducing the revised text. He said the adjustments reflect committee direction from the prior meeting.
Committee member Deb moved the resolution and Yi seconded; the committee approved the resolution by voice vote. The committee recorded the vote as "Aye" and the motion passed. The approved resolution will be forwarded as the committee decides either directly as a resolution to the county board or via HR Finance, per counsel's guidance.
