Quincy Tree Commission receives Arbor Day proclamation, reports downtown tree inventory progress

Jan Linebach, chairman of the Quincy City Tree Commission, accepted the proclamation and reported that the commission partnered with the University of Illinois Extension Master Naturalist program to inventory downtown street trees. He said 13 volunteers donated about 75 hours to inventory 241 trees across 37 blocks; the resulting summary report estimated ecosystem and infrastructure benefits for that small area and was produced at no cost to the city.
Linebach said the commission will use the inventory to increase species diversity to guard against pests and disease and that the commission will review and rewrite Quincy's tree ordinance, which he said has not been updated since 1989. Linebach also listed current commission members and noted a recent vacancy following a resignation.
The council accepted the proclamation and thanked the commission for its work; no formal vote was required beyond the proclamation presentation.
