During public comment at the May 5 meeting, resident John Stump urged the Board of Town Commissioners to hire more police officers, saying modern policing requires time for recruitment and training and warning that retirements in the next five years will create vacancies. "It takes approximately 10 months to train or recruit to be ready for the street," Stump told the board, and he said additional officers would reduce overtime and support community policing.
Commissioners thanked the resident for his remarks and noted that police staffing and related costs are part of the town’s ongoing budget discussions. The board is continuing budget work sessions and plans a public hearing before adopting the final budget on May 19.
