Sheriff asks Dickson County to form corrections partnership committee to pursue TCI Tier 1 accreditation

Sheriff Eaves asked the Dickson County Commission to authorize formation of a corrections partnership committee and to approve a resolution that will allow the county to pursue Tier 1 accreditation from TCI, a corrections accreditation organization. The sheriff said Tier 1 accreditation would increase the countys state reimbursement for housing state inmates from $41 to $44 per day.
"Once we become tier 1 accredited, that will go to $44 a day," Sheriff Eaves said during the work session, describing the program as a relatively low-cost way to adopt best practices and recover some costs.
Why it matters: The county operates an adult jail and currently receives $41 per day to house state inmates. The sheriff said that, with an average daily population of about 50 inmates, the increased rate would help offset local costs but would not fully cover them.
Sheriff Eaves described the proposed committee as a stakeholder steering group that would meet at least quarterly and include law enforcement, medical and recovery community representatives, education partners and at least one county commissioner appointee. He said the committee would not direct daily operations but would provide oversight, program updates and quarterly reports to the commission.
County leaders indicated the commission would be asked to approve a formal resolution and appoint a commissioner to the committee at the regular session. The commission voted by voice to move the matter to the regular session for formal consideration.
Less urgent details: The sheriff said there might be additional grant money available for Tier 1 agencies and that the program was intended to promote best practices and reduce recidivism. The sheriff asked the commission to allow the administration to return with candidate members for the steering committee for formal appointment.
