Staff to Senator Luca Giltoven, Mike Mason, told the committee the committee substitute inserts the phrase “approved by the voters” into section 3, so that a municipality’s governing body could not alter school board members’ terms of office without voter approval. Following that explanation, President Stevens moved to adopt the committee substitute as the working document; the committee adopted it “without objection.”
President Stevens then moved to report SB 143 (work order 34-LS0781) from the Senate Education Committee with individual recommendations and the attached 0 fiscal note; the motion carried without objection. Committee members were asked to remain after the meeting to sign the committee report.
