Board approves second amendment to Hunter Woods development agreement; developer to pay $65,000 toward water and road work

The La Porte Board of Works on May 6 approved a second amendment to the development agreement for the Hunter Woods residential project along Park Street, adding pavement repairs and water infrastructure work and allocating cost shares between the developer and the city.

Bert Cook, executive director of the La Porte Economic Advancement Partnership, told the board the amendment responds to unforeseen needs: pavement cuts along Seavers Road and additional water infrastructure for the multi-family portion of the site. Cook said the developer will pay $65,000 toward the work; the water department will install the new water infrastructure and the city will pave Seavers Road as part of the arrangement.

Cook said the changes keep the project on schedule, with water infrastructure expected by mid-July and paving soon after to allow the developer to continue construction. He noted several units are already on the market. The board approved the amendment on a voice vote.

The resolution had been passed at the City Council meeting the night before; Cook said the packet was presented to both bodies to ensure coordination. Board members thanked residents for patience with construction and noted increased patrols in the area to enforce speed limits near the work.

No additional funding beyond the developer contribution and planned city water-department work was approved at the meeting. Timelines discussed in the hearing were: paving in the coming days or early next week for the Seavers Road work, and water infrastructure completion by mid-July, per planning remarks.
