Private developers express interest in Milton marina; council to issue RFP in May

John Loftus of Loftus Marine Division said his team is "ready to move forward immediately" and that, if properly executed, a waterfront project "will contribute to the local economy" and improve quality of life. He said funding was in place for his group's concept and asked the city to put the property out for competitive proposals.
City staff described a draft RFP with a 45-day response window and noted the 3.73-acre site comprises four parcels, two of which are in residential zoning and would require rezoning for commercial/mixed use. Staff and council discussed that any successful proposal would return to council for approval of development, ownership and operation terms and that the city would not be obligated to accept any submission.
Council asked staff to place the RFP authorization on the May meeting agenda so the city can solicit competing proposals. Staff indicated it can adapt the draft timeline and that proposals will include development, ownership and operating plans for council review.
