Commission tables proposed Technology Advisory Board; asks staff to align draft with existing board rules

The Melbourne Beach Town Commission on April 16 tabled a resolution that would have established a five‑member Technology Advisory Board and instead asked staff to revise the draft to match the town’s existing advisory‑board procedures.

Town staff presented a draft resolution that initially called for each commissioner to nominate a board member. Commissioners discussed changing the process to accept volunteer applications and then select members through the town’s existing application process. Several commissioners said they preferred using the town’s regular volunteer application system rather than commissioner nominations for initial appointments.

Town Clerk Campbell Brown said town application forms used for other advisory boards could be expanded to include a technology board box and that term lengths and procedures could mirror existing advisory boards in the town charter. The commission asked staff to revise the draft so membership would be by volunteer application, subject to commission approval, and to return with consistent language aligned to charter provisions.

The item was tabled for revision; staff said they would return with an amended resolution consistent with the charter and the town’s established process for board applications and approvals.
