Board to consider well easement to Central City for community water; county to receive 100,000 gallons of free water for park use

Linn County conservation staff told supervisors Monday they will bring forward an easement permitting the City of Central City to drill and operate a community well in Pemnican Ridge Park to support the city's municipal water supply.
Daniel Gibbons said Central City has recently lost one of its community wells and needs additional capacity. He described the parcel in Pemnican Ridge Park as suitable for a well and said the city would receive access south of the river near the county shop. "This is the 1 I started off with. So, we'd like to work with Central City again for a community well in Pemnican Ridge Park... Not too long ago, they had to shut down 1 of their community wells, so they need to expand," Gibbons said.
Gibbons said the proposed arrangement would provide a community benefit to the park: the city would provide the park with up to 100,000 gallons of water for free. He said the county does not anticipate needing extra water for park expansion in the near term and that staff recommend bringing an easement to the board for consideration on the consent agenda.
Supervisors expressed support for the partnership and directed staff to place the easement on the Wednesday consent agenda for formal authorization.
