Staff said the exemptions are administered by the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) and the county’s role is to enter the exemption data into the tax system. The report indicated the exemptions remove more than $2,000,000 in taxable value.
Because the amount involved was significant, the board agreed to reschedule the item to ensure adequate public notice. A motion to remove the SLU exemptions item from the April 23 agenda and place it on Monday’s agenda carried by voice vote.
The board directed staff to correct the year in the packet and confirm public notification before the matter is reconsidered. No substantive discussion of the exemptions’ merits or details occurred on the record during the April 23 meeting; the item will be returned to a future agenda with proper notice.
