Longwood Babe Ruth reinstated as 501(c)(3); tournaments to use city fields this month

Patrick McFadden, president of Longwood Babe Ruth, told the commission his organization’s 501(c)(3) status has been reinstated and thanked the city for use of municipal fields. He said tournaments begin the coming weekend and will run through May, with the league hosting about 400 children in its program.
"As of this weekend, our 501(c)(3) has been reinstated," McFadden said, noting the organization had worked for years to address issues from prior leadership. He asked the commission to note the organization’s appreciation for use of city fields during the busy tournament period.
Commissioners and staff discussed field conditions later in the meeting. Commissioner Morgan said the fields were in good shape at the end of the season but were damaged during a subsequent weekend when lightning and heavy water made them unusable, leaving clay and standing water that will require recovery work. Acting City Manager Will Watts and staff noted parking and maintenance needs and said staff will follow up.
The commission did not take formal action on scheduling or additional field funding during the meeting; McFadden’s remarks were received during the public-input period and recorded for the minutes.
