Belleville honors wastewater director Randy Smith as he nears retirement

The Belleville City Council recognized Randy Smith, the city’s director of wastewater, at its May 5 meeting, noting Smith’s long service to the city and saying he will be on vacation before his official separation at the end of June.
Mayor (presiding) told the council the recognition was “bittersweet” and said Smith has worked for the wastewater division for more than 36 years and served as director for the past five years. “For those who don’t know Randy, this is technically his last official meeting,” the mayor said. The mayor added Smith will remain on vacation-leave through the end of June.
Council members and staff joined in brief remarks thanking Smith for his service. The mayor did not propose a formal replacement at the meeting; no personnel action or hire was taken on the council floor that night.
Smith’s recognition was presented during the council’s recognitions and appointments segment and did not include a formal vote beyond the ceremonial acknowledgement.
