School board honors educators and hears end-of-year school activity reports

The King George County School Board opened its meeting with recognitions, musical performance and school updates as the district heads into end-of-year activities.
Pastor Steven Wang gave the invocation and the Sealson Elementary School Chorus sang the national anthem. Melissa Lam, PTA County Council president, presented Outstanding Educator awards for each school and said the county council received “235 ish” nominations. PTA leaders from individual schools presented awards to teachers and staff, and the council presented an honorary life membership to Terry Rinco for more than 20 years of service.
Principals from Sealson Elementary, King George Elementary, Potomac, King George Middle School and King George High School gave brief reports on May activities, including SOL testing schedules, Market Day, field days, senior walk, spring concerts, art shows, awards ceremonies and graduation plans. Sealson’s principal described Market Day, a first-grade classroom event on May 15; multiple principals noted Teacher Appreciation Week events and end-of-year celebrations.
Student representatives Savannah Nelson (high school) and Eric Silber (middle school) reported on athletics, performing arts, DECA, NJROTC activities, prom and testing status. Nelson noted state-qualifying performances in track and field and local scholarship totals for the senior class; Silber described recent eighth-grade events, choir and band concerts, and upcoming middle-school awards and graduation.
Superintendent Dr. Boyd offered brief comments during the meeting and later provided a budget update to the board. The meeting had no public comments signed up.
Board members used the recognition segment to thank staff and volunteers and encouraged attendance at upcoming school events.
