The city council on Wednesday approved a one‑year extension to the lease with the Greater Palm Bay Senior Center, with staff and the center agreeing to several modest adjustments to cost‑sharing and operational coordination.
Deputy city manager Juliet Moscone presented the item and said staff had met with the senior center board and the organization's vice president, Sylvia Feld. Moscone said the center serves about 1,200 members and provides extensive programming and outreach. "We recognize that the senior center was built and designed to be a senior center back in the eighties," Moscone said, and staff had worked to repair divisions between the city and the center board.
Under the short extension (through 2026), the center agreed to accept a slightly increased share of certain repair costs called for in the lease. City staff said they would partner on nonlease improvements where the facility serves a community function, citing recent small maintenance investments to correct tripping hazards around the bocce area.
The council approved the one‑year extension 4‑0 and directed staff to return with a longer‑term agreement for council review before the next renewal period.
