Council approves leased vehicle for ARPA-funded home repair inspections

The City Council on April 29 approved a lease for one departmental vehicle to support the administration and inspections for the city’s ARPA-funded home repair program.

Manager Regina Younger and program staff told council that inspectors make frequent site visits — often 10 or more inspections per home over the construction period — and that providing a dedicated vehicle reduces mileage reimbursements and improves responsiveness. “On average, the inspector visits one house a minimum of 10 times and often more,” Younger said. She and Grants Director Lisa Campbell said the leased vehicle will also help staff collect paperwork from residents who cannot come to city offices.

The roll-call vote to adopt the lease recorded one “No” from Councilman Parker, with the remaining members voting to approve the measure (Deputy Clerk roll recorded Carrington: No; Goodman: Yes; James: Yes; Jones: Yes; McGinnis: Yes; Rutherford: Yes). The motion carried.

Next steps: The administration said CDBG funds will pay the monthly lease cost for one vehicle; staff will track mileage and usage and report back to council as the program proceeds.
