The Monte Vista City Council voted to adopt Resolution 2025-09, an update to the city’s fee schedule for 2025 that adjusts existing charges and adds new permit and service fees across multiple departments.
The update matters for residents and businesses because it changes water and sewer unmetered customer fees, raises some service and after-hours charges, adds a liquor-license processing fee and new recreation and permit fees, and imposes a $250 false-alarm fee at the Sky High event center aimed at repeated fire-detection responses.
A city staff presenter reviewed highlights: the video-game/arcade business license fee was reduced from $50 to $25; a $30 solar-permit fee was added; a $100 liquor-license processing fee was added to cover admin time for license transfers; background-check fees moved to $30; video-recording copies were set at $30 per hour; recreational changes included a new adult-basketball fee ($65), a $75 concealed-carry class and a $50 women’s self-defense class; Sky High will charge $250 for false fire alarms (to be split with the fire department when applicable); and several water and sewer unmetered and service-call fees were increased for in-city and out-of-city rates.
Council proceeded from motion to roll-call vote. The roll call as read in the meeting shows Councilor Howard, Councilor Lorenz (listed as “Rens” at roll call), Councilor Watson and Mayor Becker voting in favor; the motion passed and the resolution was adopted.
The fee schedule amendment also reorganized some items (moving bad check fees to finance, creating a utilities section for storm drain fees, and adding an electrical hookup fee for parks). Staff said the changes reflect updated operational costs, recent purchases (including a new stage at Sky High and related rental/setup charges), and new administrative workloads for license transfers.
The resolution takes effect per the published schedule in the adopted fee document; staff said implementation will be coordinated with billing and department procedures to reflect the new rates.
