Residents announce new civic group ‘For A Better Renton,’ say they will engage in local elections

"We are an association comprised of more than a dozen multi generational, 5 generations to be exact, thoughtful, committed Renton residents who reside in 5 different neighborhoods," Fries said, adding that members include Democrats, independents and Republicans and that "we have an ethics policy similar to a code of conduct. We have a vision, mission, and value statement, and we're going to be actively involved in the upcoming elections for both city council and the Renton School Board." She said the group has elected officers, a website that will go live soon and an email contact.
Fries told the council members the group has participated in local governance activities in a variety of roles, including neighborhood associations, civic academy participation and meetings with council members and the mayor. The remarks were made during the audience comment portion of the meeting; the council reminded speakers not to discuss specific campaign activity from the podium. No formal council action followed the announcement.
