According to figures the chief provided, the assistant chief has 10 years of service; under the department’s prior formula that would have been about $1,000, while under the new FOP formula the assistant chief’s longevity pay would be approximately $2,400. Councilors voted to follow the prevailing collective-bargaining (FOP) longevity formula for the assistant chief going forward so the position’s longevity pay changes when the FOP formula changes.
The motions were recorded and carried with unanimous support. Councilors asked no further conditions and directed staff to implement the budget adjustment for the Walmart grant and to follow the FOP longevity formula for the assistant chief position.
