Advisory committee reviews SCOPE summer rates; board told fall rates will be discussed to make program self‑sustaining

A board member briefing on the SCOPE program at Springfield Public Schools District 186 said the district's SCOPE advisory committee met to set summer rates and will discuss fall rates at an upcoming meeting as the program seeks to become self‑sustaining.
The committee — which includes district administrators, parents and SCOPE staff — met to set summer enrollment rates and will reconvene to set fall rates when registration for the next school year opens, the board member said. Summer enrollment is open and the first day of summer programming is planned for June 9, the update said.
“We're gonna be discussing fall rates because again, fall registration for SCOPE opens when registration for school opens, which is May 20,” the board member reported. The committee is studying ways to make the SCOPE program financially sustainable after operating at a deficit; the board member said conversations will continue beyond the immediate rate decisions because the program requires year‑over‑year planning.
No formal board action was taken Tuesday; the committee will return with additional recommendations in the coming weeks, the board member said.
