Milton council unanimously restores drive-thru use in Uptown mixed-use zone

Planning staff told the council the change corrects an error from the last major zoning update. “We are simply adding back the allowing drive thrus in the Uptown Mixed Use District,” Planning manager said during the meeting.
The ordinance amends the city code table of uses (cited in the meeting as MMC 17 14 010) to permit drive‑thru service where it had been allowed prior to the most recent code revision. “This just puts it back to what it was before the last major change,” the planning manager said, adding that the amendment went through the planning commission and a public hearing.
Council Member Peretti, who moved the ordinance, said the change reflected prior practice: “We do have drive thrus in our uptown mixed area, so it's a good thing to have it in our ordinance that that it can be there.” Mayor Pro Tem Whitaker seconded the motion.
Council Member Whelan asked whether the amendment was identical to the prior code and whether additional changes were anticipated; staff answered that it restores the prior language and regulations. No members of the public spoke on the item.
The motion to approve Ordinance 2110-25 carried 7-0.
The ordinance restores the prior allowances and keeps the existing regulatory language and conditions that applied before the earlier code change. The council did not add new operational standards for drive‑thrus during the meeting.
The council approved the measure during its regular meeting on May 5, 2025; city staff will publish the ordinance and update the codified table of uses according to the city’s adoption procedures.
