The Detroit City Council did not reach a quorum at the start of its session and adjourned until next Tuesday at 10 a.m., but council members present heard in-person public comments as a courtesy.
Council President Mary Sheffield and several council members noted that memos excusing absences had been received from members who would not attend. The clerk recorded that Council Member Leticia Johnson, Council Member Gabriela Santiago Romero, Council Member Mary Waters and Council Member Angela Whitfield Calloway were present; the clerk also noted absences excused for other members. Staff said technical problems with the meeting Zoom feed prevented the council from hearing remote speakers, so only those attending in person could speak and those on Zoom were asked to submit comments to the clerk's office for the public record.
Because a quorum was not present, the council could not conduct formal business and the session was adjourned. A member moved to adjourn and, hearing no objections, the meeting was declared adjourned until the council's next scheduled meeting at 10 a.m. the following Tuesday.
The clerk noted that memos excusing certain members’ absences had been received; the meeting record shows the council accepted public comment but took no votes or other actions beyond adjourning.
The council said staff and IT would continue troubleshooting the Zoom issue and that written public comments would be accepted for the official record.
