James Waters, chair of the Old Greenwich School Building Committee, told the Representative Town Meeting that bids for the Old Greenwich School project are being opened next week and that the committee expects to complete the contractor selection process in early May. Waters said a groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for Wednesday at 9 a.m. at the Old Greenwich School site and welcomed RTM members to attend.
Waters said the project’s construction is expected to begin in late May or early June, subject to final contract awards and any adjustments tied to tariffs or supply issues. Project communications and an updated project website will be rolled out to stakeholders in the coming weeks.
Why this matters
The project replaces the old school with a new facility anticipated to serve town needs; contracting and ground‑breaking are material milestones for the capital project schedule.
What’s next
Bid openings next week, contractor selection in early May and construction starting in late May or early June if procurement proceeds on schedule.
