The Atoka City Council approved a memorandum of understanding with the Lane Fire Department to allow the city’s emergency management to send an activation signal to Lane’s outdoor warning siren on the city’s emergency frequency.
Emergency Management staff said Lane will receive a new siren and is responsible for the system’s installation and ongoing maintenance. Under the MOU, the city will transmit an activation signal during tornado warnings, but the agreement clarifies the receiving department is responsible for maintenance and for the siren’s reliability. Staff noted the activation will travel over a repeater because the Lane site is beyond direct radio range.
Council members welcomed the arrangement and thanked the volunteer responders. The MOU was approved on roll call.
