Public Infrastructure director outlines upcoming water and street projects; council asks for South Main schedule

Public Infrastructure Director O'Connell told the Bowling Green City Council the city will open bids on May 8 for work to add two clarifiers at the wastewater treatment plant and expects requests for qualifications on May 14 for a reservoir study to plan expansion of a recently purchased property for the water treatment system.

O'Connell also said staff have received qualifications from consulting firms for work on water-plant clarifiers and are scoring and evaluating those submittals so the city can select a consultant and enter a contract. "We have a bid opening on the eighth coming up for the work to add some 2 clarifiers at our wastewater treatment plant," O'Connell said.

Council member Dennis asked about sidewalks and the South Main repaving project after observing new sidewalks being installed. O'Connell said he would check with Brad Engineering and provide an updated schedule the next day. He described planned work on sidewalks, pavement repairs, asphalt paving, trail work south of Napoleon, signal upgrades at the Napoleon intersection and some widening at that intersection.

The items O'Connell described tie to the water and wastewater capital work that the council authorized in ordinances earlier in the meeting; he did not provide contract awards, firm selections or project-cost figures during the briefing.

Council asked a follow-up clarifying question about the trail location; O'Connell identified the corridor as West Avenue/Main Street between Napoleon and Jerusalem. He committed to providing the updated schedule to the council.
