Infrastructure & Transportation Committee to present recommendations to City Commission on its future role

Peter, committee member, told fellow members that the minutes and the motion the committee passed will appear on the City Commission conference agenda the following day and that he planned to attend as the committee’s representative. The committee debated how strongly to press the commission to convert the Infrastructure & Transportation advisory committee into a permanent board and whether to include a draft ordinance in the materials.

Committee members agreed to remove a paragraph that appeared to draft an ordinance and instead present a concise cover letter summarizing the committee’s recommendation and background materials. James and Martha volunteered to finalize edits: James will add a bullet noting input to the City’s City Works/GIS and asset-management programs; Martha will update the draft cover letter and remove one committee member’s name who is no longer serving.

Peter said the City Commission may either: (1) decline to meet, (2) request clarification, or (3) agree to a joint meeting; if the commission asks for a joint meeting the committee said it would prepare the agreed materials and suggested a September meeting window if the commission cannot meet over the summer. The committee instructed staff to distribute the final edited materials to members for record and to await the commission’s response.

No formal new ordinance or structural change was adopted at the committee meeting; the item as presented to the City Commission will be the minutes and the committee’s motion and cover letter, with attachments if the commission requests them.
