Plano commission calls public hearing on ordinance to allow denial, revocation of certificates of occupancy

The City of Plano Planning and Zoning Commission voted unanimously May 5 to call a public hearing on proposed amendments to the zoning ordinance that would create procedures for denial and revocation of certificates of occupancy by the city’s building official.
Jason Gillis, planner with the Planning Department, told commissioners the City Council had directed staff to draft the ordinance amendments; staff recommended the commission call a hearing and forward the proposal for public consideration. Gillis said amendments to the building code are expected as well but would be considered separately by City Council.
When asked about timing, Gillis said the hearing was expected to be scheduled “pretty imminent” while staff works through the schedule. Commissioner Brodsky moved to call the public hearing; Commissioner Ali seconded. The motion passed 8–0.
The public hearing will provide formally noticed opportunity for residents, property owners and stakeholders to comment on the proposed zoning ordinance language. Any subsequent changes to the building code would be acted on by City Council as a separate matter, according to staff.
