The Village of Pingree Grove village board on May 20 approved a resolution authorizing a second amendment to a 2014 use-and-license agreement with the Forest Preserve District of Kane County for the Pingree Grove Community Park project, extending the village’s license term so staff can pursue planning and grant opportunities.
Village staff said the original license, executed in February 2014, carried a 20-year term. Staff and the Forest Preserve negotiated an extension; the Forest Preserve indicated 25 years is their standard maximum term for agreements of this kind and that extensions beyond that point are possible later. The board approved an amendment that, as discussed at the meeting, extends the license to February 2050 to provide additional planning time for the village and potential future boards.
Village Manager Andy Frini said staff had discussed the extension with the Forest Preserve and that the longer term would make the village more competitive for grants and give future leaders time to plan and seek funding should the village decide to build the park.
The resolution passed on a roll call vote with all trustees voting yes.
No construction funding or project design was approved as part of this action; the amendment adjusts the license term only and does not obligate the village to build the park. Staff said future steps would include additional park planning work and potential grant applications if the board prioritizes construction in a later budget cycle.
