At the ceremony, Presiding Judge Margaret "Peggy" O'Connell of the 18th Judicial Circuit Court administered the oaths. Mayor Mullen used her first remarks to outline the new board's agenda, saying the group was elected to "grow community development, improve public safety, support small businesses, and foster unity within our community." She pledged that "we will work collaboratively with developers and the business community to grow our downtown, improve the Ogden Corridor, and find innovative ways to occupy our empty buildings." Mullen added, "Lisle is, again, open for business."
Village Clerk Edward McQuillan thanked volunteers and residents and noted the April 1 election that chose the new officials. "I haven't really done anything yet, but, I will start tomorrow," McQuillan said, adding that he and the others sworn in would begin work at the next village board meeting. Trustee Thomas Daniel Duffy said he expected the board to move quickly on downtown revitalization and to ensure police have the resources they need, calling the downtown "the soul of our community." Trustee Christy Grau thanked voters and volunteers and described the board as "pro development" while prioritizing public safety. Trustee Christy McGovern, returning to the board after eight years, cited items she is enthusiastic about, including public art, trees, a chief of police and business development.
The ceremony included an invocation, presentation of colors by the Lisle-Woodridge Fire Protection District Honor Guard and the Pledge of Allegiance led by members of Troop 56419 from Steeple Run Elementary. Ceremony organizers said the newly sworn officials will begin their four-year terms at the village board meeting tomorrow in May; the exact calendar date in May was not specified during the ceremony.
No formal policy votes or appointments were taken during the ceremony. Officials and speakers emphasized outreach and opportunities for residents to participate in forthcoming development and community initiatives.
