County staff seek authorization to file proof of loss for administration building fire-suppression damage

Adam Greer, the county’s human resources risk and safety advisor, asked the Johnson County Board of Supervisors to authorize a proof of loss compiled by the county’s insurance provider, ICAP, for damage discovered in the administration building’s fire-suppression system on Jan. 19.
Greer said approval of the proof of loss would allow the county to be reimbursed for repair costs less the applicable deductible of $2,500. Facilities Director Dave Curtis told the board staff and the fire inspector are developing a prevention plan and that a proposed solution will be presented to the board next week; he noted the solution “is not a great solution” but is acceptable to the fire marshal and carries a price tag that staff will detail at the next meeting.
Supervisors asked about repairs and preventive steps; staff said they will bring the recommended remedy and cost estimates to the board at the formal meeting for action. No formal vote on the proof of loss was taken during the work session.
