The commissioner also reported that the Emergency Communications Board approved signing on with the Metro Regional Board to administer an RFP for a school‑mapping project. The presenter said the state awarded about $7,000,000 for school mapping across regions and that the Metro Regional Board will administer the funds and the RFP; the application deadline for that regional administrative role is May 16. The commissioner said counties are being asked what schools within their counties want to participate; mapping would be provided to schools at no charge through the grant, though ongoing maintenance costs after the project ends were said to be the likely responsibility of schools or counties and were to be addressed in the RFP.
